Centre for Integrated Health and Community Well-being

The Centre for Integrated Health and Community Well Being (CIHCW) delivers entry to advanced practitioner training and education to the Health and Community Services sector. The CIHCW also undertakes research and education projects aimed at improving or enhancing the health and well being of the community.

One of the major philosophies of the Centre is to work from the strengths or assets of the individual and the community. Informed by this is the Centre priority that focusses on ‘wellness’ and not ‘illness’. This emphasis on maintaining the health and vitality of people in the community will help minimise or reduce the need for intervention. This will improve quality of life for people so they can be supported in their own homes longer, reducing the burden on institutional care. Chisholm graduates will be trained within a team / multi-disciplinary approach so that they can more effectively contribute to a coordinated service delivery model.

Programs in the Centre cover the entire life journey including Children's and Community Services, Community Development. Youth Work, Disability Work, Nursing, Sport and Recreation, Massage, Myotherapy, Allied Health Assistance, Aged Care, Home and Community Care, Patient Support Assistance, Lifestyle and Leisure, Pilates and Fitness, Justice and Community Safety, Alcohol and Other Drugs Work, and Mental Health.

Chlamydia Project - Raise Awareness - Change Behaviour

The Chisholm Institute Centre for Integrated Health and Community Well Being in partnership with the Foundation for Young Australians is conducting an on-going project aimed at encouraging young people to use condoms. This is in response to the high incidence of Chlamydia in the 15 to 25 year aged group, particularly impacting young women.
